| Freedom of Information comes to Penang |

THE Penang state government is preparing to table a Freedom of Information (FOI) legislation during the November State Assembly. Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng said the move came after the Selangor government introduce its own bill in July. The bill was announced during the DAP's fundraiser at PISA. Read here. Deputy chief minister Prof Ramasamy heads the committee drafting the Bill. Some welcome the move, but caution that the contents of the Bill need to be seen first. Read here. A committee will be fine-tuning the Bill in preparation for the state assembly on November 1. Said Lim, "We are ready to accept the views of various quarters But what is important is to introduce the bill first." Concerns were raised by various civil rights groups on whether the Bill will address the weaknesses of Selangor's version of the Bill. Read here.Other news
